Lawrence C. [sic] Brain, 48, died this morning at his home on Hedgecoke Street following a lingering illness of four weeks. At the time of his death he was engaged in the insurance business, having been in that business for the last seven years.

Brain was an ex-postmaster of Borger and had been an agent for the Santa Fe for several years in Perryton and Panahndle [sic]. He was a member of a Masonic body.

Until his illness Brain was an active member of the Baptist church and choir.

Funeral services will be tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock in the First Baptist church, with the Rev. J.N. Hunt officiating. The body will be taken overland to Panhandle for interment.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Evelyn Sue, 19, three sons Cecil Lee, 17, L.E., 15, and George William, 13. Other survivors are one sister, Mrs. Pauline Shy of Woodward, Okla., and three brothers, Cecil and Philip E. of Long Beach, Calif., and Edgar of Oklahoma City. Numerous other relatives survive in Hutchinson and Carson counties.

Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Carver-Powell funeral chapel.

Last rites for Lawrence C. [sic] Brain, 48, who died yesterday morning at his home on Hedgecoke Street, were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the First Baptist church, with the Rev. J.N. Hunt officiating.

An ex-postmaster of Borger, Brain is survived by his widow one daughter, Evelyn Sue, 19, three sons, Cecil Lee, L.E. and George William; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Shy of Woodward, Okla., and three brothers, Cecil and Philips E. of Long Beach, Calif., and Edgar of Oklahoma City.

After the services the body was taken overland by Carver-Powell for burial in the Panhandle cemetery.

Pallbearers were Earl F. Williams, Lewis E. Williams. Sylvester Slagle, Herman L. Powell, E.B. Bridges, and Wade D. Johnson.

L. E. Brain, 48, Mayor of Panhandle from 1922 to 1924, a former city Councilman, and a former Santa Fe agent, passed away at his home in Borger, Wednesday morning, August 19, following a lingering illness of four weeks.

Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the First Baptist Church, Borger, and burial followed in the Panhandle cemetery. Rev. J. N. Hunt, Baptist pastor at Borger, conducted the services.

Mr. Brain is survived by his wife, one daughter, Evelyn Sue, 19; three sons, Cecil Lee, 17; L. E., 15, and George Williams, 13.

After being Santa Fe agent here for several years, Mr. Brain moved to Perryton about 1919 and was the first agent there. He returned to Panhandle and entered the real estate, oil lease and insurance business.

He was elected mayor of Panhandle in 1922 and it was during his administration that the municipal light plant was erected.

Early in 1926 he moved to Borger and served as postmaster. During the past several years he was in the insurance business. – Panhandle Herald.
