She was born in Lake Shore, Utah to Archer and Sarah Ann Carter Huff on December 31, 1915, one of nine children. She was raised on a farm and learned the value of hard work and family closeness, traits she passed on to her posterity.
She married Ned W. Hancock Dec. 31, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a member of the L.D.S. Church and loved her time serving in the Primary and as a Salt Lake Temple worker. Melva was an excellent seamstress; her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great grandchild were grateful for the outfits and Halloween costumes she created for them.
She was an avid Jazz fan, always looking forward to each game. Melva was a wonderful cook, specializing in homemade rolls and pies. She enjoyed reading and knitting, having just completed baby blankets for new twin great-granddaughters and a great-great-grandson. Survived by daughter Dee Ann (Eugene) Knowles, son Lee (Marilyn) Hancock, son-in-law Howard Henry, sister Jo Bunnell (Lou), sister-in-law Ruth Huff, brother-in-law Dal H. Cutler, seven grandchildren David (Diana) Knowles, Todd (Pat) Knowles, Steven Knowles, Donald Knowles, Marcy (Jonathan) Adams, Jessica (Jason) Echeverria, Jeffrey Henry, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by husband, Ned; daughter, Nancy; granddaughter-in-law Tra-cey Knowles, brothers, Archie Huff, Vern Huff, Clifton Huff, John Huff, Lee Huff and sisters Bessie Huff Atwood and Ila Huff Atwood. Funeral services will be held Mon., May 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 1950 E. 10600 So., Sandy, where friends may call Monday one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the Payson City Cemetery.
