Matthew was born in Tuzcow, Poland and immigrated to the USA through Ellis Island on 25 Feb 1898. Listed on the manifest of the Friedrich de Grosse as Mathius Steifer, Line 8 says he was headed to Hazleton, PA. Matthew worked in the mines of Hazleton. He married Mariana Dziekam in 1881 and they had 8 children. His g-grandson, Larry Wydock, put a new marker on his grave in the late 1990s.
