Mrs. Bryant was born on Oct. 30, 1910, at University Park, Iowa, to Waldo and Gertrude Fairchild Buell. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters and is survived by one brother, Harold Lloyd Buell, his wife, Molly, of St. Augustine Beach, and several nieces and nephews.
After graduation with a nursing degree from Ottumwa Iowa Hospital in 1932, Elsie Bryant worked as a social worker, public health nurse, and industrial nurse in both Iowa and Tennessee.
In 1950, she went on active duty as a Navy nurse in the Navy Nurse Corps, retiring as a lieutenant commander in 1970 after 21 years of service. Upon retirement from the Navy, she moved to St. Augustine Beach where she was a St. John's County public health nurse and created the home health program for Flagler Hospital.
In 1991, she moved to Westminster Woods. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of St. Augustine, PEO, the Garden Club and Phi Mu Sorority.
Services for Elsie Buell Bryant will be held in the Craig Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Neal Anderson in charge, followed with burial in the San Lorenzo Cemetery, St. Augustine. Rev. Anderson will also conduct a memorial service at Westminster Woods at a future date.
