Clarence R. Gontz, 57, Soldiers and Sailors Home, Erie, died late the evening of June 1, 1982, in The Chambersburg Hosptial. He was visiting relatives locally when he became ill.

Born July 30, 1924, in Southampton Township, Cumberland County, he was the son of the late Jacob A. and Mary A. Myers Gontz. His wife, Erma L. Stine Gontz, died Oct. 18, 1963.

Prior to his retirement he was employed as a construction contractor. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and received the Purple Heart. A Protestant by faith, he was a member of American Legion Post 223, Shippensburg.

Surviving are a son Rodney C. Gontz, serving with the U.S. Army in Germany; two stepsons, Ronald L. and Dennis E. Stine, addresses unknown; four brothers: Bruce A. Gontz and Charle L. Gontz, both of Shippensburg; Luther D. Gontz of Orrstown; Ralph R. Gontz of Shippensburg; four sisters: Anna M. Martin and Jennie H (Mrs. Bernard) Ott, both of Shippensburg; Betty Rassmussen of Kennewick Wash.; and Ruth Rotz; and a granddaughter.

Services held Saturday at 11 am in Fogelsanger Funeral Home, Shippensburg, with the Rev. Roger E. Keech officiating. Military graveside services conducted by members of Shippensburg American Legion and VFW posts. Burial Spring Hill Cemetery.
