Tuesday January 10, 1815
Died - on the 8th inst. Dr. ROBERT HARRIS, an old and respectable inhabitant of this city, aged 84 . He was a zealous Christian and affectionate Husband - a tender Father and a generous friend.

Robert Harris, A. M., M. D. Son of Capt. Thomas Harris and Mary McKinney Harris both of County Donegal, Ireland. Robert Harris was born in Elizabethtown, Lancaster Co., Pa. where his parents settled, opening a tavern called " The Sign of the Bear", the house-tavern later expanded and it still stands now as a private residence today.
Robert Harris graduated from Princeton University in 1753, practiced medicine in the Philadelphia area and was also a prominent business man with buying and selling property in Philadelphia and Lancaster County, Pa. He was also a partner in his father, Thomas Harris and brothers, Matthew and John Harris venture called the "Philadelphia Company" which bought and sold land in Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Revolutionary War Service: On 25 October 1765 he was a signer of the Non- Importation Resolution- it declared that the citizens of Philadelphia would cease dealing in British goods.
He help fund and produced gun powder for the revolutionary army.

Robert was 1st married to Hannah Gibb, [ Gibb not Gibbs] daughter of Capt. Richard Gibb of Raritan Landing, New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey. She died on 9 January 1791 in Philadelphia, she has three different death notices in the Phila. newspapers..
Three children were born to this union:

1. Catherine Harris- [1770-1792], age 22 yrs. died in Philadelphia, she has a death notice.
2. Thomas R. Harris
3. Richard Gibbs Harris [ 1773- ?]

Dr. Robert Harris then married a second time to Isabella Harris a 1st cousin, daughter of William and Elizabeth Glen Harris.
Dr. Robert Harris was originally buried at the Second Presbyterian Church Cemetery, but when that cemetery closed in 1867, more than 1500 burials were moved to Mount Vernon.
