Catherine Harris Archer, was the daughter of Captain Thomas Harris and Mary McKinney Harris. Catherine's father came from Raphoe, County Donegal, Ireland and immigrated in 1726 coming to Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. On the same ship was Catherines mother, Mary McKinney and family. Thomas Harris and Mary McKinney married in 1730 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pa. They settled in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, Pa where her father built a tavern called " The Sign of the Bear". It was later rebuilt with a substantial house- tavern that still stands on 56 N. Market St. Elizabethtown, Pa., He sold the property abt. 1851 and stayed in the Dauphin County, Lancaster Co., Pa area and then came to Harford County Maryland abt. 1860 where he bought land in the Churchville - Lower Crossroads area. Mary McKinney Harris died on 19 Nov. 1770. Capt. Thomas Harris a holder in the Philadelphia Land Co., in Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada, sold his property in Harford Co., and moved to Nova Scotia for a few years. He returned to Pennsylvania, buying land close to Mifflintown, Juniata Co., Pa., building a grist mill, saw mill and other ventures, where he died and was buried. Catherine's mother, Mary McKinney Harris was also buried in Churchville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, a stone was erected, later deteriorating, then replaced in 1892. . Catherine Harris Archer was the mother of nine known children, four that became Physicians, the fifth so called was " George W. Archer" dying at age 18yrs., before he finished his medical degree.
