GIRARD -- Mrs. Bertha Vesta Brooks, 73, of R. 3, Girard, a longtime resident of the Girard and McCune areas, died at 9 p.m. Saturday in Mount Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg.
She had been in failing health for several years.
She was born June 17, 1904, at Fordland, Mo., to J. R. and Frances Daniels Green. She and EArl Brooks were married in McCune on Dec. 22, 1920.
He survives of the home. Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Church of Christ in McCune.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Helen) Allen of Girard; three sons, Vernon of Bates City, Mo., James of Burlington and Raymond of Girard; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Jones of Girard and Mrs. Amanda Nutt of Parsons; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Stewart Funeral Home in McCune with Elvis Denney officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery.
Family members will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Stewart Chapel.
