Miss Craig Is Sergeant's Bride


The wedding of Miss Isabelle Craig, daughter of Mrs. Grace Craig, of Waynesboro, and Sergt. Ralph W. Bates, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Bates, of Shiremanstown, took place Saturday afternoon in Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. Dr. Scott Wagner, pastor of the Reformed Church, offiicating (sic).


Sergeant Bates, who recently returned from more than two years' service in Alaska, and his bride, a sister of .Mrs. William E. Bitner, Jr., of Shiremanstown, are spending several days at the Bates' home. He will report to Florida for duty about March 1.

Isabelle C. Bates


Isabelle C. Bates, 88, of Messiah Village, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 at Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.


Born in Welsh Run on May 24, 1912, she was a daughter of the late H. Wallace and Grace Duffield Craig. She was the widow of Ralph W. Bates.


Mrs. Bates was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown.


Surviving are a daughter, Martha M. Miraglia of Camp Hill; and two sisters, Elizabeth C. Bitner of Mechanicsburg and Louisa C. Decker of Waynesboro.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 44 W. Main St., Shiremanstown, with the Rev. Michael L. Seifried officiating. Private burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Camp Hill.


Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.


Memorial contributions may be made to her church or Messiah Village, Endowment Fund, 100 Mt. Allen Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
