Barney Baker, 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baker, living near Loving, was bitten on the foot by a rattlesnake and died that night. He and his little sister had been to the field, where their father was plowing, and returned to the house through the orchard. They stopped to pick up some green peaches that had fallen from the tree and the snake attacked them, biting the little boy on two toes. The snake struck at the little girl but missed her.
