Joe Hager

CHERRYVILLE - Joe "Hubcap" Alexander Hager, 87, of Cherryville passed away, Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Hospice of Cleveland County.

He was born June 10, 1922 in Gaston County and was the son of the late Rufus L. and Addie Carpenter Hager.
Joe was retired from Carolina Freight Carriers, Cherryville, where he was employed as a long line driver for 33 years. He received a safe driving award honoring him for driving over 3 million miles with no chargeable accident. He was also recognized in February of 1967 by the North Carolina Motor Carriers Association as the North Carolina Driver of the Month. He was also owner and operator of Hubcap's Store in Kings Mountatin for 10 years and Joe's Pickin Parlor in Kings Mountain. Joe was also a co-host at WKMT Radio Station in Kings Mountain and was known as "Uncle Joe" to his listeners. In his earlier years Joe was a manager at Dallas Mills, in Dallas and was also a salesman for Key Clothing. He graduated from Tryon High School in 1940. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and also attended Concord United Methodist Church. He was a former member of Eagle's Club, Club Carolina, and Teamsters Local #61.

Joe is survived by three children, Jo Elaine Tedder and husband Ron, Wayne Hager and wife Rhonda, and Lynn Day and husband Doug, all of Cherry-ville. Grandchildren Rick Hager and wife Heather of Vale, Michael Day of Cherryville, Cori Hager of Cherryville, and Chris Waddell of Kings Mountain. His Great-Grandchildren are Kara Hager of Vale, Tiffany Waddell and Christina Waddell both of Kings Mountain. Also surviving are two sisters, Jenielle Ramsey of Bessemer City and Rev. Nancy White of South Charleston, WV and a brother-in-law Jack Earl of Chattanooga, TN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many special friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Johnnie Mae Hager Earl of Chattanooga, Tenn.

The family will receive friends from 7to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Stamey Cherryville Funeral Home in Cherryville.

The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Robbins officiating.

The body will placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Wendover Hospice House in Shelby for their care and support. Also a special thank you to Jessie Ruff, Anne Farnsworth and Violet Smith for their love and help.
