WILLIAM BARKDOLL, widely known retired farmer, died at his home in Smithsburg Sunday at 1 a.m., aged 85.
Born in Smithsburg, he was the son of Elias and Rebecca (Yeakle) Barkdoll. For many years he lived at Greensburg, where he was a farmer and fruitgrower, then retired and moved to Smithsburg.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Greensburg, a church councilman for 50 years, and an active member of the Sunday School.
The deceased was a charter member of the Red Men's Lodge, a member of the Junior Order United American Mechanics, and the Knights of Pythias.
Surviving are his wife, Rosa (Kretsinger) Barkdoll; children, Mrs. John Wiles, Mrs. Earl Bowman, both of Smithsburg; brother, David Barkdoll, Smithsburg; sister, Mrs. Mary Clark, Hagerstown; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday at 1 p.m., Rev. Francis Bell officiating, with interment in the Smithsburg cemetery.
The body may be viewed at the home tomorrow evening between 7 and 9.
