Rev. Atkins Of Pelzer Dies At 61
PELZER - Rev. Max L. Atkins, 61, of Highway 20, pastor of Pelzer Church of God, died Tuesday.
Born in Barnardsville, N.C., son of Mrs. Lena Ray Atkins and the late Laban A. Atkins, he was an ordained minister for 40 years, and held pastorates in Blacksburg, Fort Mill, and Anderson before coming to Pelzer. He was a former evangelist and state youth director in North Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
Surviving also are his wife, Margaret Rowe Atkins; a son, Chuck Atkins of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters, Miss De Lois of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Max Morris and Mrs. Don Hughes of Cleveland, Tenn.; seven brothers, Roscoe and Luther Atkins of Barnardsville, N.C., Redford and Jack Atkins of Asheville, N.C., Garrett and Terrell Atkins of Weaverville, N. C., and Don Atkins of Ypsilanti, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. Nola Shepard and Mrs. Dixie Bennett of Burnsville, N.C., and Mrs. Ethel Anders of Barnardsville, N. C.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Pelzer Church of God, with entombment in Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Anderson.
The body is at McDougald Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 4 p.m Wednesday.
