Barnardsville – The Rev. Luther James Atkins, 83, of 19 Hillcrest Drive, Barnardsville, died
Friday, Jan. 21, 2005.
Rev. Atkins was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Buncombe County where he lived all of his life. He
served as a pastor and evangelist within the Church of God Association. Rev. Atkins was the son of the late Rev. Laban and Lena Ray Atkins. Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Darinda Hensley.
Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Juanita Worley Atkins, daughters, Lavonne Hartwell and husband, Roger, of Leicester, Pat Rice, Kathy Robbins and husband, Fred, and Wanda Cole and husband, Randy, all of Weaverville, sons, James Atkins and wife, Brenda, of Black Mountain and Larry Atkins and wife, Brenda, of Weaverville, sister, Dixie Bennett of Burnsville, brothers, Jack Atkins of Asheville and Don Atkins of Florida, 14 grandchildren
and five great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of West Funeral, 17
Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. Bill Clement and the Rev. James Black
officiating. Burial will be in Clarks Chapel Cemetery.
