Ora was one of a set of triplets born to Robert Lee and Maggie Ward. That was such a rarity that people came from miles to see the girls: Ora, Dora, and Nora. The family, which had just grown to eleven, lived in a dugout at that time. The multiple birth was so unexpected that older sister Minnie had to run to town for more clothes so the babies could be shown. Four years later, a set of twins would be born which made the family well known.

When Ora married Fairley Floyd on December 12, 1937, they married in Minnie's house in Elk City.
