Rob was the son of James Polk and Margaret Mary (Seymore) Ward. He married Mary Magdalene "Maggie" Fort on December 18, 1892 in Batesville, AR. Soon after the birth of their first child, Rob wanted to move to Texas where they stayed for 5 years before moving back to Oklahoma. Maggie died soon after the birth of their 14th child. At that time the children ranged in age from 1 to 17, with four children under the age of 5, and a set of seven year old triplets. After a few years Rob married Mattie.
