Mildred Lawhorne Campbell, 78, of Piney River, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at Fairmont Crossing in Amherst. Born in Nelson County, Feb. 6, 1932, she was a daughter of the late John Leslie "Les" and Lena Jones Lawhorne. She was retired from Central Virginia Training Center and had also worked at GE. Mildred was a beloved mother and grandmother and was a faithful member of Rose Union Baptist Church, where she served on the WMU, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school.

She is survived by one son, John Dillard Campbell (Wanda), of Arrington; one daughter, Patricia C. Evans (David), of Roseland; four sisters, McJoy Williams (Bud), of Arrington; Cora Bell Hughes and Jean Lawhorne, both of Massies Mill and Peggy Lawhorne (Clemon), of Tyro; three grandchildren, Stephanie and Stacey Evans, both of Piney River, and Ashley Campbell, of Lovingston; two uncles, Russell and Micky Jones, both of Lynchburg, and many other loving relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home with the Rev. John Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery.
