RITES CONDUCTED FOR F. TOWNLEY, RETIRED COLONEL

Services were conducted Wednesday for Frank Harmon Townley, Jr., 58, retired army colonel and long-time post office employee, who died Saturday evening at Memorial Hospital from heart trouble. He had suffered with a serious heart affliction since a heart attack in March 1956.

Burial was at Hillcrest.

Mr. Townley was born in Weiser December 23, 1899. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harmon Townley, pioneer residents. He was graduated from the Weiser high school in 1917 and served in the United States navy with the South Pacific fleet during World War I. He also saw active duty during World War II, serving in India from 1941 to 1945.

On November 13, 1925, he and Elaine Johnson, who survives him, were married in Caldwell.

Mr. Townley had been employed at the Weiser post office since 1934. Before that he was with the state highway department for four years. He owned and operated the Crescent Cigar store for several years prior to joining the highway department.

He joined the National Guard in 1921 and served with the unit until he retired last year. He was also a charter member of Russell Smith Post 42, American Legion, and a past commander.

Mr. Townley was a charter member and member of the board of trustees of Weiser Elks lodge; a member of the Weiser Knights of Pythias and Wesier A.F. and A.M. 23.

At the time of his death, he was president of the Weiser Cavalry association.

Survivors in addition to the widow are one daughter, Mrs. Joan Greene of Hermiston, Ore.; two sons, James of Pleasant Hills, Calif. and Frank Harmon Townley 3rd of Weiser; one brother, Lance, Boise; one sister, Mrs. Carl Braden, Portland, and two grandchildren.

A memorial fund at Weiser Memorial hospital has been etablished by the family in honor of Mr. Townley. Persons wishing to contribute should make their check payable to "The Hospital Auxiliary Memorial Fund" and send them to the hospital.

WEISER - Services for Frank Harmon Townley, Jr., 58, of Weiser, who died Saturday evening in a local hospital after a long illness, will be conducted at the Northam-Jones chapel, Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Robert Nicholas will officiate. The Weiser Masonic lodge and National Guard will conduct services at Hillcrest.

Mr. Townley was born Dec. 23, 1899 in Weiser and was graduated from Weiser high school in 1917. He served with the Navy during World War I and joined the National Guard in 1921. He served with the Army from 1940 to 1945 with a part of that time on active duty in India. He was retired from the Guard last year after serving as a colonel. He was married Nov. 13, 1925 in Caldwell to Elaine Johnson.

He owned and operated the Crescent Cigar store here until 1930 and worked for the state highway department for four years, when he began work as a clerk in the Weiser post office.

He was a member of Weiser lodge 23, AF&AM; a chapter member of the Weiser BPOE; a member of the Knights of Pythias; a charter member and past commander of Russell Smith post 42, American Legion, and president at the time of his death of the Wesier Cavalry association.

Surviving in addition to Mrs. Townley are two sons, James Townley of Pleasant Hill, Calif. and Frank H. Townley, III, of Weiser; a daughter, Mrs. Joan Greene of Hermiston, Ore.; a brother, Lance Townley of Boise; a sister, Mrs.Carl Braden of Portland, and two grandchildren.
