James H.Pritchett,age 55,for several years a commercial traveler living in Decatur,died at 5:30o clock Monday night in his home,1052 W. Main street,following two years of ill health and a weeks serious illness.
He was born about fourmiles north east of Niantic, Sept. 30,1859. He was the only son of T.A.Pritchett,a hardware dealer of Niantic. He received his education in that village and succeeded his father in the hardware business when the latter moved to Decatur. Moving to Cairo, Ill. in about the year of 1889 he became cashier for the American Express Col. which position he held for 14 years. He then moved to Decatur in 1903 and was a member of the firm of Bean & Pritchett grocers. Disposing of his interest in this store a few years later he became a a traveling salesman. He was employed by various whoesale grocery houses for about 12 years. He was one of the influential members of the United Commercial Travelers and he belong to the Modern Woodmen lodge. He was an elder in Central Christian church of Christ for several years.
His health had been failing for two years and last Monday night he became ill while attending a picnic in Fairview park. His condition grew serious the next day and he was not expected to live for several days.His death is attributed to kidney trouble.
He was married to Miss Elizabeth O.Harris in 1883 in Niantic and she died 19 years ago last Sunday. He was married to Sarah E.Wissinger in Cairo, March 30, 1902. Besides his widow Mr.Pritchett leaves two sons by his first wife,They are Theron,Sr. of Cairo and Robert of Minneapolis. Victor a third son died in 1902. He also leaves three sisters They are Mrs.L.M. Richardson of Deatur,Mrs.Frank R.bean of Bloomington and Dr.L.C. Pritchett of Bloomington. Anothe sister,Mrs.J. H. Patterson died last Nov. in North Dakota. A grandson Theron Jr. Lives in Cairo.
Funeral services will be conduced at 10 oclock Wednesday morning in Central chruch of Christ by Rev. W.H. Cannon and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
