A native of Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Osvil Marshall Blake, Sr. and the late Cecil Crowell Blake. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norein Norris Blake who passed away in 1980.
Dr. Blake received his Doctorate Degree of Education from North Carolina State University. He founded Mayland Community College in 1971 and served as the first president of the college until his retirement in 1986. Dr. Blake was a member of the Vesper Masonic Lodge #554 A.F. & A.M. He was also member of the Scottish Rite with the thirty-second degree and a member of the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He had received the Fifty Year Pin for membership in the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Shriners.
Dr. O.M. Blake, Jr. is survived by his daughter; Kathy Banks and husband, Kenneth of Asheville; a grandson; Lance Gurley and wife, Brandi of Spruce Pine; a granddaughter; Caitlyn Banks of Asheville; a brother; Don Blake and wife, Jeannie of Conover; and his step mother; Blanche Blake of Oakboro, NC.
The funeral services for Dr. Blake will conducted on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 at Webb Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Fairview Memorial Park of Albemarle.
