Robert Haynes Webb was borne from the union of Clayton Stribling Webb and Elvira Susan McElroy, who had wed on January 12th, 1826 in Pendleton District of South Carolina. Robert was one of twelve children, born August 6th, 1840 in South Carolina, before the family moved to Georgia, in the 1850's. His family lived at Hartwell in Hart County, Georgia, until Robert married Mary Josephine Lattner, daughter of James S. and Elizabeth A. (Holland) Lattner, on Nov 20, 1862, in Franklin Co., Georgia. Her father joined and served in the Confederacy for the duration of the War Between the States as a Lt. in the Georgia Infantry. By 1870, the couple had moved to Dahlonega, Lumpkin County, Georgia, onto a farm where they raised their four children, Lee, age 6, Charles Howard, age 3, (Mary) Esther, age 5 months, and James Claude, age 2. [In 1880, for some reason, everyone gave only 1st and middle initials with their last names, not only in Georgia, but also in Oregon. I have no reason why and it has been the bane of my research, along with the fact that most of the census records taken in 1890 were destroyed in a fire!] By 1880, Robert, Mary and the children had moved to a farm at Dahlonega in Lumpkin County, Georgia. From the census, it says they were living in a new dwelling. I haven't been able to identify two of his children, however, knowing them only as W.R. Webb, a son, age 9 yrs. when the census was taken, and J.B. Webb, a second son, age 7 yrs. when the census was taken. None of his children lived with him by June, 1900. All I know is that his wife died some time between 1880 and 1900 and that he remarried in 1900 to Mollie Purcell, b.Aug 1863 in GA. She had two sons who lived with them, Ira Purcell, b.Aug 1886, and Clifford Purcell, b.Sep 1889; both sons were also born in Georgia. Robert was employed as a Deputy Clerk (for the City or Co.) and their home had no mortgage, so had been paid in full, probably from profits from the sale of his farm. Robert died on January 10th, 1910, five months before the next census, and I was not able to find Mollie Webb in that census. I can only guess she had either moved, married again or passed away. Robert Haynes Webb is interred at Sunnyside Cemetery in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia. I have no idea where Mary Josephine (Lattner) Webb is buried, would appreciate knowing as well as the full names of the two youngest sons born after 1870 and not included in the 1900 census.
Effective 2019: I have learned that Mary Josephine died in @1898 although I still have not learned where she is buried, however. Robert remarried in 1900 to Mollie Purcell, as previously stated.
I would be very grateful if I knew where she is interred.
Robert Haynes Webb and Mary Josephine Lattner Webb are my paternal great, great grandparents.
