Fielding, age 17, is listed in Claiborne County, Tennessee, in the 1850 federal census, with his parents, Hiram, 33, and Mary Arnwine, 32, and siblings William, 10, and Sarah A., 6. All were born in Tennessee. By the 1860 federal census, Fielding was living in Tazewell, Claiborne County, with wife Mary, 22, and 1-year-old daughter Susan. Sons William and Fielding were born in 1862 and 1864, and little Susan died on May 22, 1862.

Fielding Arnwine enlisted for 3 years at Tazewell, Tennessee, on July 8, 1863, and was a Private, Company A, 12th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry. He was described as 25 years old, born in Claiborne, Tennessee, 5'-8" tall, dark complexion, gray eyes, dark hair, and a farmer by occupation. He was absent from his company on detached service as a scout from December 30, 1863. He was listed deserted on June 21, 1864, at Tullahoma, and returned in October 1864. He was again on detached service, at Nashville, in December 1864. He was listed sick in Jefferson, Indiana, from January 5, 1865, and sick since April 22, 1865, at Crittenden USA General Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky. He died July 13, 1865. His brother William Arnwine also served in Company A, and died at Nashville, Tennessee, on June 16, 1864.

Mary Arnwine applied for a widow's Civil War pension on September 8, 1866. Mary Arnwine is listed in Claiborne County, Tennessee, in the 1870 and 1880 federal censuses with sons William and Fielding. The 1900 federal census states she had had 3 children and 2 were living.

NOTE: A Civil War marker was ordered and placed in a cemetery in Rutledge, Tennessee, probably with a misspelled last name. One of these markers must be a cenotaph.
