Richard Israel Barlow (84) Passed away peacefully on May 25 in Mission Viejo, CA after a long illness. Dick was a long time resident of Corte Madera, CA and a tremendous lover of the San Francisco Bay area. He thoroughly enjoyed reading and staying abreast of world activities, especially the political scene here in the United States. A life long liberal, he dearly wanted to participate in this year's presidential elections! Dick and his late wife Phyllis Mackenzie Barlow worked and lived in San Francisco during World War II following their marriage. The military would not draft Dick due to several childhood illnesses, so he worked as a machinist on the San Francisco docks repairing and refitting naval vessels. Following the war, Dick attended the University of California at Berkeley and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was president of his own company, Fluidynamics for over 10 years. Dick later worked for Bechtel Corp. and retired from SOHIO Construction company as Manager of Control Systems/Electrical/Telecom Engineering. Dick was born on March 31, 1920 in West Bountiful, Utah to Israel Barlow III and Alice Belvea Welling Barlow. He was the fifth of 10 children. Dick (or Izzy ) as he will be remembered by family and friends in Salt Lake City) graduated Granite High School, Salt Lake City in 1938 as Student Body President. Dick was a child of the Great Depression, which he never forgot. He was an outstanding father and grandfather, and will be deeply missed. Dick is survived by his only child Scott, and grandchildren Ryan and Amanda. All three are residents of Orange County, California. Dick is also survived by his oldest sister Hazel Bailey, his younger brother Leo Barlow and his youngest sister, Barbara Staker, all life long residents of Salt Lake City, Utah.
