SULLIVAN Nov 27-George Brotherton died Friday morning in his home in S.Main street. His wife preceded him in death last Saturday and the shock added to old age were too much for him. Had Mr.Brotherton lived until New Years day he would have been 81 years of age.
He was born in Franklin countyu,Ind, grew to manhood there and on Sept. 12,1858 was united in marriage to Sophia Melvina Benton. He is survived by two children, Mrs. Harrison Dolan of Sullivan and Mrs.Ed Monroe of Leon, Iowa. Both were with the father at the time of his death.
Mr. Brotheton and his family first moved to Moultrie county in 1872 residing on a farm two miles north of Sullivan for 11 years. They then moved to Sullivan.
Mr. Brotherton was energetic and not long ago was heard to say that he had never been sick but once in his life.
The funeral services will be held in the Methodist church at 2 pm Sunday,conduced by Rev. J.E.Tharp probably assisted by Rev.W.B.Hopper of the Christian church.
