Miss Maude Neville, 639-5th NW, longtime employee of THE PARIS NEWS, died at 11:55 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Holy Cross Episcopal Church with the Rev. Paul H. Hadley officiating. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Miss Neville was associated with The News for 63 years. The first society editor for the paper, she began writing a weekly column in Sept. 1916. She retired from full-time employment in April 1972 and continued work in a part time capacity until 1979. During her years at The News, she served in both society and regional editor positions. Her particular interest was in the history of Paris and Lamar County. She was a charter member of both the Lamar County Historical Survey Committee and the Lamar County Historical Society. Miss Neville was also a charter member of the Paris Business and Professional Women's Club which honored her as Business Woman of the Year in 1965. Paris Bank of Texas named her as Senior Citizen of the Year in 1976. She was an honorary member of George Washington Stell Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Lamar County Council of Texas Home Demonstration Association, and of the Paris Altrusa Club. She formerly served on the board of directors of the Paris Public Library. A member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, she was a former Sunday school teacher and member of Holy Cross Guild. Miss Neville, who lived at the 5th Street NW address all her life, was born March 15, 1898, a daughter of A.W. (Judge) Neville and Jeannie Walker Neville. She attended Graham Elementary School and was graduated from Paris High School in 1916. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. C.W. Leigh of Houston; five nieces and three nephews.
