Robert Gussie "Gus" Ratcliff, aged 82, a pioneer of Quemado Valley, Texas died in the Val Verde Memorial Hospital in Del Rio, Texas on February 14, 1973 following a stroke that he suffered earlier the same day. "Gus" was born in Hubbard, Texas on January 21, 1891 to Robert William and Iturea P'Pool Ratcliff. He married Mamie E. Elliott on September 8, 1912 in Clarendon, Texas. The Ratcliffs lived in Brownfield for many years where he farmed and did carpenter work, before coming to Quemado Valley in 1934 where he continued to farm and raise stock until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quemado, Texas.
