Hazel I. Wright, 98, passed away May 23, 2007 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born June 19, 1908 to Charles Aaron and Mary Elizabeth (McMurry) Rice in Russell Springs, Kansas. As a child she lived in a sod hut and rode in a horse and buggy to school. Hazel was a school teacher in Kansas for many years. She has been a Colorado Springs resident since October 15, 1941 and a member of Pikes Peak United Methodist Church. Hazel was also a member of the Historical Society in Western Kansas and a prominent Activist in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil Wright, a daughter Mona Pilant, and a son Kenneth Wright. She is survived by three children Wilma (John) Petricko of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nila Bader of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Elaine (Ray) Pigford of Montrose, Colorado, one sister Opal Frey of Arvada, Colorado, twelve grandchildren Art, Alan and Steve Pilant, Kathy Cooper, Greg Petricko, Tracey Wright, Larri Ann Burnham, Michael and Cynthia Bader, Christine Ballou, Blane Lancaster and Kelli Rufenacht. She is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 pm Tuesday May 29, 2007 and 8:00-5:00 pm Wednesday May 30, 2007 at Blunt Mortuary 2229 West Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday May 30, 2007 at Pikes Peak United Methodist Church 2927 West Pikes Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904. The family asks that donations be made to the Nate Pilant Memorial Scholarship Fund, University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, Kentucky 40769.
