A few genealogy notes from this contributor provided in December 2022:

(a) Hazel McDaniel was from a fairly large and prominent family from Bourbon County, Kansas. Many of her siblings homesteaded in Western Canada and western USA. It appears that many of the movements of Hazel were to visit/follow her siblings to various locations;

(b) Hazel most likely was visiting her sister Una Roxie Finley (nee McDaniel) on the Finley farm near Hatton, Saskatchewan in 1917 when she met George Pennell (an immigrant from England who was helping a cousin work the farm next door to the Finley farm). George Pennell was the biological father of Hazel's daughter Wilma Louise Shaw;

(c) Hazel was in Alberta, Canada when Wilma Louise Shaw was born on April 11, 1918 (Alberta birth record is on file). No record has been found (so far) of Hazel marrying a Shaw and therefore, the reason that the surname Shaw was given to Wilma is not yet known;

(d) A studio photo of Wilma Louise Shaw (appearing about 1 year old) from a studio in Parsons Kansas was found – meaning that Hazel and Wilma were back with Hazel's parents sometime in 1919. Hazel's sister Una Roxie died in January 1919 in Cranbrook, B.C.

(e) In 1920 Hazel was living with a Henry Coghill in Basin County, Wyoming. The move is confirmed in Wilma' obituary and in a 1920 census record. There are other records from the early 1920s that show that Hazel's sister Leolin (and her family) and Hazel's brother in law Finley along with new wife also lived in Basin, Wyoming. Most likely Hazel and Wilma moved to Basin, Wyoming to be with these family members and then at some point Hazel moved in with Henry Coghill. No marriage (or divorce) records between Hazel and Coghill have been found but there are records where Hazel was using the Coghill surname.

(f) Wilma Shaw's 1974 obituary states that she moved to Casper in 1922 and lived there from 1922 until her death in 1974. This means that Hazel McDaniel also moved to Casper in 1922. There is an inconsistency between Hazel's and Wilma's obituaries – Hazel's 1967 obituary said she came to Casper in 1919 (whereas Wlima's says 1922). The evidence does not support 1919 (unless she traveled through Casper and stayed for a short time before continuing on to Basin, Wyoming). The 1922 arrival in Casper is more likely to be accurate.

(g) Hazel Tina McDaniel was in Harrison, Sioux, Nebraska, United States on August 20, 1926 when she married Carl Edwin Edwell. It is not clear what reason they had to marry in Harrison – presumably Edwell had family connections there. Hazel Tina McDaniel commenced a court action for divorce from Carl Edwin Edwell (in 1933 through the Casper Wyoming courts). Hazel still used the Edwell name for many years until her marriage to Sullivan.

(h) Hazel married Michael Joseph Sullivan. This marriage occurred in Lusk, Wyoming, USA (about 100 miles east of Casper, Wyoming). Michael Sullivan's obituary says it occurred in 1942. However, the State of Wyoming record (a typed index card) indicates the wedding occurred October 29, 1951. No evidence has been found that they lived in Lusk, Wyoming so the reason that place was chosen for the wedding is unknown.

(i) All other records are consistent with them remaining in Casper, Wyoming (until Hazel's death in 1967 and Sullivan's death in 1973).
