He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 14, 1942 at Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
He was originally from Smithton, Pennsylvania.
He was interred in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on June 29, 1948.
He was the older brother of Carl H. Mathias, who is interred next to him in the Gettysburg National Cemetery.
