SAN ANGELO - William Aubrey Roberts, 81, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, in the Texas State Veteran's Home in Big Spring. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, in Valley View Cemetery in Coke County. Services are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Bill was born on March 17, 1927, in Valley View in Coke County to Powell Aubrey and Effie Modgling Roberts. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army and worked most of his life as a heavy equipment operator doing pipeline construction. He married Margaret Neff in Flagstaff, Ariz., in December of 1972, living most of their lives in Arizona. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Margaret; his parents, Powell and Effie Roberts; two brothers, Oral Roberts and Jack Roberts; and a nephew, Gary Featherston. Survivors include his sisters, Christine Murtishaw and husband, H.C. of San Angelo and Edna J. Gillit of Big Spring; a brother, Weldon Wayne Roberts and wife Nettie Bob of San Angelo; his nieces and nephews, Babe Beyerlein of San Angelo, Mark Murtishaw of Bartlesville, Okla., Kim Harrison of Jal, N.M., and Waynette Mailloux, North Kingstown, R.I. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews from out of state, Debbie, Pam, Carolyn, and Kenny.
