ALBERT LA BOLT

Albert LaBolt, 82, well-known local retired merchant and motel owner, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the Odd Fellows Nursing Home here, having been ill the past four months and hospitalized Jan. 3, when he had undergone surgery.

Mr. LaBolt was born Sept. 8, 1900, in Ripley County, the son of Charles and Lucy Alley LaBolt. A resident of Greensburg early in his adult life, he later moved to Adams, where he resided for 30 years, moving back to Greensburg 20 years ago.

A merchant by trade, Mr. LaBolt managed the Kroger Store on the west side of the square for several years before jointly operating a store-meat market with Gerald Robbins on South Broadway. In 1933, he bought out Arthur Toothman's grocery store in Adams, and continued to own-operate that neighborhood grocery until 1963. In 1960, he built LaBolt's Motel on Lincoln Street, and after having built the motel, he retired. Mr. LaBolt was also a retired postmaster, having been postmaster in Adams for 20 years. He also formed the Adams Coal Co., as an aftermath of a derailment of coal cars in Adams in 1936. this company was active for several years, serving the surrounding communities with coal.

Active in several community organizations he was Past Worshipful Master of he Masonic Lodge in Milford, and past president of the Eagles Eerie Lodge No. 927 in Greensburg. A member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Adams, he had served as trustee for many years. A member of the Scottish Rite, he had obtained the 32nd degree in that organization. Also, Mr. LaBolt was instrumental in establishing the first Adams Volunteer Fire Department, and remained active until moving to Greensburg. He was currently an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was united in marriage with Mae Worland in Greensburg, Nov. 14, 1926, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons: Harold LaBolt, Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Charles LaBolt, Evansville; two daughters: Mrs. Claude (Dorotha) Bilbrey, Greensburg, and Mrs. Ralph (Janice) Stacy of Zionsville; a brother, David LaBolt of Greensburg; a sister, Mrs. Olive Toole, Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry Cooke officiating, and with burial is South Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday and there will be a ritualistic Masonic service conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.
