Clarissa was the daughter of Henry and Amelia Bourdeau Wygant and a life-long resident of Perrysburg. When she was nine years old, her mother died in the 1854 cholera epidemic that swept the Maumee Valley. Clarissa married Jacob Hufford on 23 June 1861 in Perrysburg, Ohio. She died on the operating table during an appendectomy.
