Samuel Lodowick (Loudy) McCalmont, 87, of Main Street, Hickory, died in his home Tuesday, July 7, 1981, after a lengthy illness. He was born June 1, 1894, in Mt. Pleasant Township, a son of Samuel Allison and Elizabeth McCarrell McCalmont. A retired farmer, he was also retired from the trucking business, having hauled milk and freight. His wife, Mary Elizabeth Chalfant McCalmont, died in 1964. Mr. McCalmont was a member of Hickory United Presbyterian Church and Knights of Pythias Lodge, and was a director of the Hickory Woodrow Telephone Company and former officer of the Pennsylvania Milk Haulers Association and the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Maxwell (Virginia Ruth) Smith of Lancaster; one brother, Donaldson McCalmont of Hickory; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Lyle of Hickory; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A son, J. Theodore McCalmont, two brothers and two sisters are deceased. Services will be Friday, July 10 at the William E. Speakman Funeral Home Ltd. Houston with the Rev. Harvey O. Johnston officiating, interment will be in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. - Observer Reporter, July 9, 1981.
