Arthur William Mattingly, 71, of Cloverport, a retired barber, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday [February 26, 1963] at the Breckinridge Memorial Hospital, Hardinsburg. He is survived by his wife, Zora; three daughters, Nellie Mattingly, at home, Mrs. John Tucker of Harned, and Mrs. Dailey Peterson, of the Panama Canal Zone; five sons, Joe Mattingly of Elizabeth, IN, AFC Monnin Mattingly of Jacksonville, AR, Argus Mattingly of Pleasure Ridge Park, Arlie Mattingly of Valley Station, and John A. Mattingly of Louisville; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Marcus Harper, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Rose Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mr. Sherwood officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The body is at the Harry L. Dhonau Funeral Home in Cloverport where the Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today.
He registered for the World War I draft at Glen Dean, Breckinridge County, Kentucky on 6-5-1917 as Arthur Mattingly and gave his date and place of birth. He said he worked as a laborer for John Overton in Askins, Kentucky and was single. He described himself as tall and of slender build with blue eyes and brown hair.
