Newton B. Knapp (age 60 years, three months and 18 days) died at his residence in Wayne County, IA, on Sunday, Dec 20th, 1885. Newton was born in Putnam county, New York on Sept 2nd, 1825. He moved to Iowa at an early age, locating in Lee County, where he resided until about two years ago, when he moved to Wayne County.
Mr Knapp has been a church member in fact as well as in name for upwards of 25 years, most of which time he was associated with the Baptist Church, but lately, we understand with the M. E. church.
He has been afflicted for upwards of 10 months, suffering most severely, during which time he has not murmured, but has borne his sufferings in silence. The funeral sermon was preached by Reverend Mathenia of the M.E. church, from Rev. 14-13. A large congregation of neighbors and friends being present. To the stricken family, the sympathy of a host of friends and admirers goes out for Mr. Knapp was a man of rare virtues.
