Funeral services for Mrs. Lorraine Kathryn Powell, 53, who died Sunday morning, Sept. 4 after a long illness at Dakota Hospital in Vermillion were held at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Rosary was recited Tuesday evening at the Elmore - Wagner - Iverson Funeral Home. Rev. Leonard Stanton was in charge of the services. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Powell was born Sept. 28, 1913, at Vermillion to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Walz. She was married to Frank S. Powell, Jr. on Sept. 28, 1940, in Ponca, Neb. She was a longtime resident of Clay County and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Altar Society of the Catholic Church and the VFW Auxilliary. Mrs. Powell also was a graduate of Vermillion High School and attended the University of South Dakota.
Survivors include: The widower, Frank S. at Vermillion: three daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Carrol) Newbold, Mrs. Carl (Donna) Gratzfeld and Miss Linda C. Powell, all of Vermillion: a son, Leo F. of Vermillion: four brothers, Bernard Walz and William Walz, both of Vermillion, Delmar Walz of Chicago and Warren Walz of Ainsworth, Neb.: two sisters, Mrs. Viola Huetson of of Denison, Tex., Mrs. Mary Grangaard of Bell, Calif.: and grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ellery Ahlgrim, Vermer Sorensen, Alphonse Girard, Justinius Westre, Clement Schafstall and Howard Morse.
