CREIGHTON — Services for Leone Merchen, 88, formerly of Creighton, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Creighton. The Revs. Norman Prather and Matt Bahnfleth will officiate. Burial will be at Beaver View Cemetery at Crofton. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.
She died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Pierce Manor.

Leone Margaret (Douglas) Merchen, daughter of Leonard and Bessie (Jackson) Douglas, was born on Aug. 20, 1921, at their farm in the Devils Nest near Crofton. She attended a rural school near Crofton and Crofton High School.
She married Guy Herbert Merchen on Dec. 22, 1940. Ten children were born to them: Marilyn, Dora, Mary, Edward, Carol Jean, Ruth, Janis, Judy, Larry and Diane. Guy and Leone lived and farmed northwest of Crofton until 1968. Guy retired from farming, and they moved to an acreage on the north side of Creighton.
Leone worked in the kitchen of Lundberg Memorial Hospital. She retired after 18 years and spent her time traveling with family, working with church activities, quilting, playing cards and enjoying many sporting events. After leaving Creighton, Leone resided at The Homestead in Norfolk and more recently the Pierce Manor. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Creighton and was a member of the women's organization. She was also active in VFW Auxiliary and the Creighton Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include children Marilyn Birmingham of San Antonio, Texas, Dora (Dan) Parnell of San Antonio, Mary (John) Strayer of Chicago, Ill., Edward Merchen of Creighton, Ruth (Rich) Ashton of Woodward, Iowa, Janis Jensen of Pierce, Judy (Roger) Cambier of Alton, Iowa, Larry (Tracey) Merchen of West Point, Diane (Lance) Brozek of Plainview; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister Charlotte Kollars of Crofton.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, brother Donald Douglas, sister Mavis Merchen, infant daughter Carol Jean and two sons-in-laws, Don Birmingham and Jerry Jensen.
Burial will be at Beaver View Cemetery at Crofton following the luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asera Care, 1909 Vicki Lane, Ste. 110, Norfolk, Neb., 68701.
