Richard L. Meadows Sr.
MEADOWS, Richard L. Sr., 66, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 29, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph A. Meadows Jr., of Crewe and Shenandoah; and stepfather, Jack K. Templeton, of Newport News. Dick is survived by his loving devoted wife, Sarah "Bunny" Meadows; mother, Phyllis M. Templeton; son, Richard L. Meadows Jr.; brothers, Joe Meadows and his wife, Donna, Doug Meadows and his wife, Pat; stepsons, Eugene and Edward Stanley; granddaughter, Margo; step granddaughters, Lacey, Stephanie, Samantha, Helen and Sallie Stanley.
Dick was a graduate of Virginia Tech. Foremost among his many accomplishments as a member of the Corp of Cadets, a member of the Gregory Guard, commander in the Arnold Air Society, major on the Regimental Staff, and cherished fellowship with the Golden A's.
He went on to pilot the C-130 aircraft as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. Stationed in the Philippines, his missions took him to and from Vietnam during the height of the war. He continued flying after his duty with the Air Force Reserve.
He later worked for Travelers Insurance Company and Rhyne Contractors. Dick's avid love of fishing and hunting was shared with his brothers throughout his life and will surely be missed by those big bass and deer.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10).
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Crewe Cemetery, Crewe, Va. at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va., 23226.
