His second wife (Sarah's stepmother) Elizabeth Isbell Rutherford Roden (1799-1856) was a second cousin once removed of her son-in-law (Sarah's husband) John William Isbell. Elizabeth's brother Ellis Isbell (1797-1880) founded the town of Isbell in Franklin County, Alabama. Elizabeth's father George Isbell and John William Isbell's grandfather Zachariah Isbell Jr. were first cousins.
