O. C. Meckenstock passed away Saturday afternoon of a heart attack. "Mac" to his friends, had been uptown and went home and laid down. Mrs. Meckenstock called for help, but he had passed away. He ran a garage for many years and sold to Wayne Anderson a few years ago. He was a member of the A.F. and A. M. Masonic Lodge of Kirwin and a Past Patron of O.E.S. He leaves his wife, Maude, and one son, Wilbur, of Hays. Funeral services were held on Monday at the Methodist Church with Rev. J. C. Daniel and Rev. Robert Woody in charge. Burial was in the Kirwin Cemetery.

Otto Charles Meckenstock was born May 4, 1888, son of Julius and Johanna Meckenstock, at Cuba, Kansas, and grew to manhood near Clyde, Kansas. He departed this life at the home on April 7, 1962, at the age of 73 years, 11 months, and 3 days.

After college training at Kansas State college, Manhattan, and a diploma from the Salina Business college, he graduated from the Lincoln Auto School, Lincoln, Nebraska, on September 10, 1912, and followed this profession until his retirement, moving to Kirwin in 1924.

He married Maude Hart of Miltonvale, and to this union one son, Wilbur, was born. His entire career and enjoyment in life, was service to his motoring friends in the repair and maintenance of the automobile from its beginning until the modern V-8 motor of today.

He was a member of the A.F. and A. M. Lodge No. 98 of Abilene, being initiated November 1, 1915. Currently a member of the Kirwin Lodge No. 175; the Kirwin Chapter No. 66; the Hiram Commandry No. 51 of Phillipsburg; the ISIS Temple of Salina; and the Amicitia Chapter No. 283 Order of Eastern Star, Kirwin.

Since an automobile accident in 1951 of which he never fully recovered, he has been in retirement and has spent many hours fishing at the Kirwin Dam and tending his large vegetable garden at the home. He was a kind and loving husband and father.

Preceding him in death were his mother, father, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are his wife, Maude; his son, Wilbur, and daughter-in-law, Alma of Hays; a sister, Minnie of Independence, Missouri; a sister, Hulda of Belleville; four grandchildren, David, Lea Ann, Dan and Bob; and a host of friends.

He was a member of the Community Methodist church of Kirwin where funeral services were held with Rev. J. C. Daniel and Rev. Robert E. Woody officiating. Iola McFadden and Mildred Lemon furnished the music accompanied by Marie Stockman.

Flower bearers were Mildred Marple, Alta Stuckman, Hazel Scott, Doris Eller. Pallbearers were: Wilbur Lala, Vern Willey, Frank Townsend, Verdon Blomfield, Merle Scott and Alfred Willis. Interment was in the Kirwin cemetery with the Kirwin Masonic Lodge in charge.

Note: In 1943 when Otto's brother, Fritz, died, their living sisters were:
Hulda of Agenda, Minnie Hammar of Vancouver, Wash., and Emma Olson of Denver, Colo;
