George Hunter Conant, 77, of Port Byron, Illinois, died on December 24, 1997, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport, Iowa. He was the son of Edwin Albert Conant and Luella Ferne Hunter. He married Natalie Churin on May 15, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from September 25, 1939 until February 22, 1944 in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He worked in advertising at Deere & Company for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1984. He co-designed the Deere trademark. He graduated from the Chicago Academy of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. He was a member of the Inventors Club, Moline, and had been active in the Boy Scouts and the Indian Guides. He was a former member of the Port Byron American Legion. He was survivved by his wife, daughter, three sons, seven grandchildren, two sisters, and three brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Miriam; and brother, Hollis.
