Elisha Nicholson was born in Dubois County, Indiana, April 26, 1832. He left Indiana in 1849, moving to Warren County, Iowa, where he was united in marriage to Miss Delilah A. Goosic on October 15, 1854. He moved to Furnas County almost thirty-nine years ago and took up a homestead just across the highway from where he passed to his heavenly reward. To this union were born eight children, of whom four daughters and one son are living and all were present to mingle their grief with the aged mother and faithful companion, who for sixty-two years has walked by his side and shared the pleasures and hardships incident to the life in the settlement of a new country. He died August 25, 1916, aged 84 years and four months. He was a Christian man, a faithful husband and father, a good neighbor and friend. He has gone to meet the host of God's children around the throne eternal. Besides his widow and five children, he leaves numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. A. DeFrance at the home of Henry Leonard on Saturday, August 26.
