FUNERAL SERVICES WERE FRIDAY FOR MRS. JULIA LEONARD

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church in Beaver City for Mrs. Julia Leonard. Reverend E. B. Kentfield officiated at the last rites.

Julia Rosella Nicholson, daughter of Delilah and Elisha Nicholson, was born in Medora, Iowa on January 21, 1870.

She was married to Henry Leonard in 1886 in Furnas County. To this union nine children were born, six girls and three boys. A daughter, Mrs. Harry Weber of Colby, Kansas followed her mother in death by 12 hours.

Most of her life was spent in Nebraska except for a few years when they lived on a small citrus farm near Harlingen, Texas.

Mr. Leonard passed away in 1937. She professed her faith in Christ when just a young girl and had lived a truly Christian life. Always ready to help when needed, self sacrificing and a good and loving mother.

She had been in failing health for several years. She made her home with two daughters, Mrs. Joe Ayars of Beaver City and Mrs. Scott Hurtt of Colby, Kan. While in Mrs. Hurtt's home she became seriously ill January 15 and was brought back to the Ayars home. On January 24th, she was taken to the Mayo Nursing Home.

She passed away February 1st at the age of 85 years and 11 days. She awaits the coming of her sons Harry Leonard of Edison, John Leonard of San Pablo, Calif. and Russell Leonard of Beaver City, her daughters Mrs. Scott Hurtt of Colby, Kansas, Mrs. Warner Hopkins of Spenard, Alaska, Mrs. Joe Ayars of Beaver City, Mrs. Leon Dierker of Beaver City and Mrs. Frank Clason of Beaver City. She is also survived by 46 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Robert Theobald and Mrs. Russell Leonard sang "Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown" and "Under His Wing" accompanied by Mrs. Lyle Mayo.

Interment was made in the Deaver Cemetery east of Beaver City. The pallbearers were her grandsons Henry Leonard, Kenneth Avary, Bill Dierker, Scott Hurtt, Jr., and Harold Leonard and a great-grandson Frank Wentling.

Hopping-Haase Funeral Home of Beaver City was in charge of the arrangements.
