Mr. Burner was born April 24, 1924, in Shenandoah and was the son of the late Ralph Burner and Mattie Triplett Burner.
He was a poultry farmer and an engineer with the Norfolk and Western Railroad. He enjoyed reminiscing and talking of his days when he fired on the steam engines. He was a member of the Alma Primitive Baptist Church.
On Oct. 3, 1942, he married Marguerite E. Shuler Burner, who preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2004.
He is survived by two daughters, Gloria J. Atkins of Stanley, and Linda L. Campbell of Shenandoah; two sons, John W. Burner and R. Kenneth Burner, both of Shenandoah; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Elder Ernest Long and Elder Jim Painter will conduct a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Shenandoah.
