Fred Batchelder, 78, retired member of the Minneapolis fire department and former resident here was buried in Greenwood cemetery Sauk Centre, Saturday. He died last Thursday January 17 at Northwestern hospital after a brief illness.
Services were held in Minneapolis Saturday at which a large contingent of firemen represented the Minneapolis department. The Rev. Willis C. Payfer, pastor of the Methodist church here, officiated the grave.
Mr. Batchelder was born in Reading Mass., October 20, 1867. In 1873 he came west with his parents and they settled in Minneapolis. Later they moved to Sauk Centre where he remained until early manhood. In 1894, then a resident of Minneapolis where he remained the rest of his life, he joined the Minneapolis fire department. He retired about 10 years ago.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. A.V. Sutton of St. Paul; one grandson, Everett Batchelder, of Crookston, and several nieces and nephews. Two sons, Leslie and Everett died before their father.
