A memorial service for Foy L. Cochrane, 89, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene, with the Revs. Larry Veith and Kathy Kramer officiating. Potlach Post No. 10300 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard will conduct military honors. Urn Burial will take place at a later date in the Mendenhall Cemetery in Onaway. Mr. Cochrane died early Saturday morning, April 10, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Village in Moscow.

Foy was born Nov. 12, 1920 to Eugene and Edna(Bunney) Cochrane at the family home on Chambers Flat near Harvard. He attended the Chambers Flat Country School and finished his eduacation at Potlatch High School.

He joined the U.S. Navy on Sept. 30, 1942, and served in the South Pacific aboard LSTs. He was discharged Dec. 30, 1945, as a motor machinist's mate 1st class. He was with the first group of recruits at Farragut State Park during World War 2.

He married Joan L. March on July 18, 1948, in Spokane and the couple made their home at Harvard.

In 1952, the couple purchased the farm on O'Reilly Road in Princeton and resided there until 2006, when the moved to Potlatch.

His love of farming was a lifelong love. He farmed part time for special friends Craig Fleener and John Kuehner for about 20 years. He also worked in the woods, at local sawmills, Clearwater Power Co., Everett Will Tractor Co., and drove gas truck for the co-op in Princeton and Palouse. Foy also worked several summers for Cay's Rock Crusher and enjoyed the camping out while doing this.

Foy passed his love of driving back roads to see where they ended on to his children. He attended several reunions with his Navy shipmates and had a great time reminiscing about old times.

Foy was a retired Potlatch volunteer fireman, a member of the VFW Post 10300 in Potlatch, a former member of the Odd Fellows and Moose Lodges, and Cayuse Kids Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife Joan of Potlatch; one son, Donald and his wife Kim of Princeton; three daughters, Nancy Biggerstaff of Spokane, Valerie Douglas and her husband Jack of Mullen, Idaho, and Verlynn Emerson and her husband Myron of Potlatch; three Brothers, Marlyn and Virginia Cochrane of St Maries, Charles Cochrane of Princeton, and Duane and Mathilda Cochrane of Potlatch; and eight grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund, c/o: the Latah Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 264, Potlatch, ID 83855, the Potlatch VFW, Grace Luthern Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse is handling arrangements.
