Jakob/James Oscar Freeburg was the son of Anders Johan Freeburg and Catharina "Catherine" Carlsdotter Freeburg. James married 1st Clara Etna White on Dec 27, 1885 in De Soto, Johnson, Kansas. Children of this marriage were Charles A., Earl Alfred, Leslie Raymond and Bessie May.

Widower James married Miss Eva Belle Moyer on Oct 2, 1902 in Argentine, Wyandotte, Kansas. Eva's mother, Elizabeth, had remarried to a George W. Hardesty and lived with her daughter and son-in-law.

After Belle died in 1918, James married MRS. Iva M. (Weddle) Brown.
