10/13/2014 - suggestion from Richard Heck

Their suggestion:

I believe Barbara May Heck was not daughter of Jacob MAY and Sophia Rummel
as some trees show. Peter and Barbara are direct ancestors. Peter migrated
from PA to OH with spouse named Barbara May Shockey, daughter of Jacob
Shockey. Pleae check or confirm sources that show lineage through Jacob and
Sophia. Sophia was too young to haven given birth to Barbara in 1767.

As of 10/13/2014 - name changed to Shockey and parents unlinked.

JACOB SHOCKEY (6-2-1) was the third son of Christopher Shockey and his
wife, Barbara. He was born in Pennsylvania, probably Bucks County, about
the year 1749. He was married to Anna Freed who was a daughter of Peter
Freed of York County, Pennsylvania. Jacob was a soldier in the
Revolutionary War. The Archives of Pennsylvania show him as having served
in Captain Daniel Clapsaddle's Company in 1780 - 1781.
Jacob owned quite a lot of land in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. and in
Washington County, Maryland. Some of the first records on Jacob are in
Cumberland County, Pennsylvania This is the part or Cumberland County that
became Franklin County in 1784. Tax records for 1780, 1781 and 1782 show
him as owning eighty acres, two horses and three cattle On 2 October 1769
he purchased, from his father, Christopher, two tracts of land which were
part of Christopher's original land grant "Sarah's Delight." One of these
tracts contained one hundred and twelve acres and the other contained
eighty eight acres for which Jacob paid his father fifty Pounds. This
transaction is recorded in Liber M, pages 530 and 531 in the Frederick
County, Maryland, land records. On 6 September 1769 Jacob received a land
grant in Frederick County, now Washington County, Maryland. This grant was
for twenty five acres and was called Jacobs Delight." Jacob's will is on
file at Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, in will Book Six,
pages 82 to 84.
Jacob died in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, but no gravestone has yet
been found, He has many descendants in the area around Franklin County,
Pennsylvania, and Washington County, Maryland. The latest telephone book
for the town of Waynesboro, Franklin County, has eighty one listings with
the surname Shockey.
