Julia was a daughter of William Graham & Margaret Ann Purdy of Grahamville, McCracken Co., KY. Julia was a granddaughter of Pheobe Moberly & Robertson Graham, a War of 1812 soldier, a known early settler of Bloomington, Indiana. Robertson, his father Thomas, and grandfather John are all known to have lived in Crab Orchard, KY at one time. Their Graham Family history is well documented. She was a great granddaughter of Thomas Graham, and a great, great, granddaughter of John. Both Thomas and John were Revolutionary War soldiers. In the mid 1850's her father, uncles and grandfather Robertson Graham all went to the Warren County, Iowa area to settle.

William Clinton Graham, Julia's father, had been living in Martin Co., Indiana prior to the family going to Iowa. William's family only stayed in Iowa for about 6 or 7 years between 1852 and 1859. This family can be found in the 1850 Mitcheltree, Martin County, Indiana US Federal Census and by 1860 they can be found in Marshall Co., KY.

One of Julia's younger sisters, Emily, was born in Marshall County, KY. Julia's brother, John Edward, and several other younger siblings were all born in McCracken County, KY. Julia's father came to Marshall Co., KY sometime after the birth of Julia and before the birth of Emily (in 1861). Sometime between 1861 and 1880 the family moved from Marshall County, KY to the Grahamville area of McCracken Co., KY.

Julia was born in Warren Co., Iowa. Julia and James Anderson Douglas were married in Massac Co., IL. They made their home near the county line of Massac / Pulaski Co., IL along Tick Ridge Road, and very near the Ohio River. Their homeplace was owned by the children after their death. Some years later the homeplace was sold to the Fick family where a catfish pond stocking business was run.

Julia's husband, James Anderson Douglas, is known for settling the area of Douglas Landing on the Ohio River in Pulaski Co., IL. He had cabins at one time along the riverfront and kept a picnic grounds area cleaned for families who came for a visit in warm weather. Julia lived at the homeplace, Douglas Landing, later she lived with her son on the old farm place, and she was living with her daughter, Emma Corzine, in Centralia, IL at the time of her death.
