Mrs. I. E. Thompson Dies at 10 O’Clock This Morning at Home

Funeral Arrangements Not Yet Announced; Reached 81 Week Ago

Mrs. I. E. Thompson, 312 Eighth avenue, died this morning at 10 o’clock at her home. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Mrs. Thompson was 81 years of age one week ago. She had been a resident of Brookings for nearly 20 years.

Besides her husband, she is survived by five children, three daughters and two sons, all in or near Broekings. The daughters are: Mrs. Guy Derdall, Mrs. Mary Bortnem, Mrs. Olaf Bortnem. Sons are T. J. Thompson and Arthur Thompson.

MRS. I. E. THOMPSON

Mrs. I. E. Thompson passed away at her home on Monday morning, August 18, 1941, at the age of 81 years and eight days, following an illness that had caused her to fail in strength for the past few months.

Sophia Johnson, daughter of Hans and Christie Johnson, was born in Sogn, Norway, August 10, 1860. In 1865, she, with her parents, immigrated to America, settling near Viroqua, Wis. In 1878 they moved to Moody county.

On March 13, 1883, she was united in marriage to Isaac Thompson, and to this union eight children were born.

There are left to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother, her husband and five children: Mrs. Guy Derdall, Mrs. Mary Bortnem, Theodore Thompson, Mrs. Olaf Bortnem and Arthur Thompson; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. four sisters, Mrs. Thomas Hanson, Flandreau; Mrs. Susie Collins, Faith; Mrs. Ole Quam and Mrs. Hiram Harwod, Colman. Three sons, Henry, Ernest and Albert, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Thompson had been an active member of the Midway Lutheran church and its Ladies Aid since their organizaion in 1878. She was also an honorary member of the First Lutheran Ladies Aid in Brookings.
